I guess hard work does pay off. My boss got fired for incompetence, and the company was on the verge of outsourcing many of our department’s duties. A coworker and I got together over a few beers and developed a new business plan for the department, and they like it! Now we both manage the department.
In classic eat-your-cake-and-have-it-too fashion, the company didn’t give me a raise. They told me that both of us were part of the old, failing agenda, and that we would have to prove our new plan works before reaping the benefits. I guess hard work doesn’t pay off. It’s total bullshit, and I’m probably getting played, but what the hell: At least I answer to fewer people now.
